Automated Video Transcription

Aug 16 2011

Today, we’re excited to announce one-click, 100% accurate transcription for all Wistia accounts. These transcripts are interactive and synced to the video which is great for usability and can give your video a boost in search results.

To celebrate, we put together this interactive demo that covers how transcription works and what you should expect from the user experience.

    Can you handle the foreign language translations of the video transcripts within Wistia or does that service have to be handled by 3PlayMedia (as a separate transaction)?

    With transcription offered for a fee, will it be optional, and will administrators be able to deactivate this feature to prevent all accounts running up transcription charges? In our situation, we would prefer that only the main site administrator have access to transcription and use this service as required.

    Transcriptions will only be created for videos you choose to create them for. Only project admins can create transcripts. If you’re interested in turning this option for your account just send us an email at support@wistia.com.

    Love the feature of being able to embed this on my site. However, I would like a little more control on where the transcript appears as well as having the control to size the text box. Having the transcript just below the video isn’t always a place of choice. Sometimes, this takes up real estate that would be better suited for a headline or a graphic. Having the transcript show up to the right, left, or top would be an excellent way to improve the embed feature.

    @Jason:

    You’re right, it’s frequently useful to have the transcript next to or above the video. This is technically possible right now with some careful modification of the embed code, but kind of a pain. We’re already working on a new type of embed generation that will let you place it above, below, left, or right of the video. Coming soon!
