Hmmm… This might be neat. I don’t know though. Isn’t simplicity the cool thing about Wistia? The ability to see the (GREAT) content and not worry about the technology…

  • http://3SunThanksgiving.com Dave

I dunno, looks pretty darned simple to me.

I *would* like to see a little more about the video stats though.

Maybe a screen capture showing an example, for example? ;-)

    Hi Guys,

Great to see some movement on this – I think the ability to allow viewers to embed is an important feature. In fact, we hadn’t hear about this and implemented our own just last week. Funny how things work out like that :)

Here’s a post with an example:
    http://www.siliconprairienews.com/2010/11/at-town-hall-pandora-founder-shares-his-story-listens-to-users

With your embed button, any chance it will have a customize size feature in the future?

  • Chris

    Paul,

Thanks for the feedback. Do you mean the process of copy-and-pasting the embed code from within your account into The Social Bar is too cumbersome? We’ll definitely get this directly onto the embed pages within Wistia so that you don’t need to do any copy and pasting.

  • Chris

    Danny,

Nice implementation. I think you’ll like our embed button as it’s self propagating. Once other users embed the video their viewers will also have the opportunity to embed the video.

And yes, in the future we’ll be adding a customize size feature for the embed button.

  • Chris

    Dave,

Thanks for the feedback. We’ll do some screencasts showing off how the stats button will work.

    Very cool from many levels….

  • Brendan

    Thanks Dave!

  • Michel

Great feature! All that is required, is a few mouse clicks! Are there any plans on extending this to a playlist?

  • Brendan

Hi Michel. Glad you like it. The Social Bar should work well with playlists as it is now. Have you tried taking a Wistia playlist embed and plugging it in to the Social Bar?

  • Michel

Excellent, got it going. Now, for a tougher question. Does it support adding social sharing buttons “per” video (whenever a user clicks a different video in the playlist), instead of liking the complete playlist?

  • Brendan

Michel, unfortunately that’s not currently possible. The way twitter and Facebook have implemented their sharing buttons makes it extremely challenging to make that dynamic. Sorry for the bad news!

This is really nice. And Wistia is a great platform, better than Vimeo IMHO.

One thing I would love to have is a download button so that if I’m using videos in a password protected membership area, I could easily embed some videos with the download button allowing members to quickly grab a copy of the video to put on iPods/iPads, etc.

And then I could use another embed code without the Download button for videos that go in a different membership level where no downloading is allowed.

Perhaps it’s already possible and I missed it?

Once again, great stuff, really love it!

    thanks!

  • Brendan

Hi Zack, thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately because the Social Bar isn’t built directly into the Wistia platform, having it add a download button isn’t possible right now. This is because the original asset’s URL isn’t contained within the embed code.

I’ll follow up by email and show you how to get a download link from the application.

Thanks for adding the Google+ button to the social bar.

  • Brendan

Hey Jim, you got it! Glad you liked it, and thanks for the comment!

  • http://www.visualworkplaceinc.com Eric Hula

I really like the new social bar. While I’m gushing, I also like the new updates to the player. Big kudos! As far as FB and Twitter go, I think it’s going to be one of those things that you have to do whether it provides revenue or not. I don’t think our company will ever convert a lead from FB, but we have our name out there.

    I <3 Wistia :)

    Thanks!

  • Brendan

Thanks Eric! Definitely agree on the social aspects — it’s a must have these days but hard to measure a real ROI from them.

can we add digg and stumble upon?

  • Brendan

Hey David, good idea. We’ve got some updates coming to the Social Bar next month. I’ll see if we can get these included!

  • Brendan

David, good news. Digg, Stumble Upon, and a bunch of others have been added to the Social Bar.
And even better than that, the Social Bar is now included with SuperEmbeds, so no need to copy and paste embeds codes into the Social Bar tool.
