Top Hat Tuesday is our fancy weekly video series where someone from the Wistia team shares a useful bite-sized tip... whilst wearing a top hat. We'll be covering video production, marketing, and everything in between.
Autoplay isn't always the best choice for videos on your site. At the wrong time or in the wrong place, it can be downright annoying. But where it really shines is in email! We suggest using selective autoplay for videos in email campaigns to reduce friction for viewers.
Let's put it this way: when someone clicks a thumbnail image with a play button on it in an email, they've indicated that they want to see your video. Why put them through another series of clicks? Get them to your video right away by autoplaying the video in their browser.
Using the code below, you can selectively auto play for only those viewers who arrive at your video from email, or from a particular link, using a URL parameter.
You can try it out on the video above by attaching ?wemail= to the end of the URL! We've found that just removing that small extra step can make viewers really happy. That's what it's all about, right?
