Welcome Customer Champion Gordie to Wistia!

We're super excited to welcome Gordie Smith to the Wistia customer happiness team! We got to know him a bit better with a quick interview. Read on to learn more about why he's excited about working with video, what he's been learning in the past year, and a cool place to see waves crash into other waves!

What's most exciting to you about working with video?

Video is awesome. I find it exciting how there are lower barriers to entry every year to produce and distribute video compared to whatever time scale you want to look at from say ten, twenty, one hundred years ago. Go video! It's exciting to be able to create something that anyone anywhere in the world can watch on the internet, and see videos shot from all over the world by billions of people with their own voices and ideas. People are visual, life is visual, and so are videos. I guess it's just a great medium!

What have you been up to in the last year?

I spent a lot of time teaching myself coding-related stuff and building some websites with Ruby on Rails, Javascript, and other technologies. Before that, I worked at a content marketing agency. It's exciting to work at a company using a lot of similar technologies to what I was learning but at business scale. Also, hiking!

Are you a dog person or a cat person? Why?

I'm a dog person. I included a picture to answer why! (Also, I enjoy going for walks, playing catch, and chasing geese.)

What's the best place you've ever been?

Earth is pretty great! Okay, a smalIer place? I like the sandy point at the end of the lighthouse point on Block Island, Rhode Island. There's usually a nice breeze and you can watch the sun set. The point juts right out into the ocean and there are waves coming from both sides of the island that meet. Waves coming from one direction crashing into waves coming from the opposite direction. They meet at the point, make cool patterns, and spray in the air, which is pretty neat.

What's your favorite liquid?

Water! It's 70% of my body, a key ingredient in beer, and overall great for hydration.

Show and tell: share a video that you like!

I'm a timelapse video lover. Send me all your favorite timelapse videos!

What's a song you're loving right now?

It's so hard to pick just one! But, this one has been playing a lot lately.
