Adam Lisagor, founder of Sandwich Video, hosts a creative workshop during a WistiaFest breakout session to review videos submitted from various companies. In each video, he offers his expertise in video production to highlight techniques that worked well and provides constructive criticism for areas needing some improvement.

Content from Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, Custom Video Productions, Lin Graphica, PLS 3rd Learning, Sticker Mule, United Capital Financial Life Management, Veterans United, Jive, and Invision is critiqued.

One takeaway from the workshop is a narrator’s voice can instantly tip you off to whether a video is high quality or low quality work. Although a non-actor in your office has potential to bring more authenticity, you might want to consider finding a voice over artist who will read your script and go over multiple takes. You can be specific about narrator casting because narrators are characters in your piece just like anyone on screen.

Be careful not to lean too heavily on voiceover to tell your story. In Jive’s case, they should rethink their copywriting to make their video short and to the point. If you’re working with a non-actor on your team like Lin Graphica, find someone for your video who is compelling to watch. Having a great presence on camera and on set will make a noticeable difference in the shoot.

Lisagor also covers how to make sure an app looks good when you’re capturing someone using their phone in videos. He suggests downloading a green screen app instead of throwing a green frame on your phone.

Watch Lisagor’s creative workshop to hear detailed critiques of each companies' video content.
