Even pro linguists can mispronounce words, so Wistia translates your videos using the editable transcript, not the audio.

  • What is video localization?

Video localization is the process of making your videos accessible to viewers in other geographies and languages. This can include everything from captions in other languages to video dubbing in other languages to changes in visual content to align with cultural norms for various locations.

  • How does video localization work with Wistia?

At Wistia, we make it easy for you to localize your video with both captions and/or video dubbing. Once you've generated a transcript in the original video language, you can select the "Manage localizations" dropdown to choose the language(s) you want to include. You can get text translation only, which includes editable transcripts and captions, or you can order a dubbed version, which will produce an AI-generated dubbed version with voice cloning and lip-syncing, in addition to the transcript and captions. All of these updates happen at the video level, so you (and your audience) only need to manage one file no matter how many translations you add to your content. Everything takes place in your Wistia account, so once your localization is ready, all you need to do is hit share or embed and your audiences will get to experience your video in their preferred language.

  • How many languages are supported?

We currently support 32 languages and are regularly adding to the list.

  • How can my audience watch in their preferred language?

When your viewer has their browser set to their preferred language, if you've dubbed your video into that language, it will automatically start playing in their preferred language. This also makes your video easier to find in search results, since search engines will look for matches in the browser language settings. Your viewer can also toggle between languages by clicking the language button in the playback bar.

  • Can I download my video for each dubbed language version?

We do not currently support video download in multiple languages, just the original video language. You can share and embed your video just as you normally would, and it will have all of your dubbed languages available when viewing on your site or app. Keep an eye out for the ability to download videos in each language.
