Diversity, Equity,
& Inclusion at Wistia

We’re committed to embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) into everything we do at Wistia, making sure everyone is respected, treated equally, and celebrated for who they are—no matter what. We’re super excited about our ongoing work to make Wistia a more fair and equitable place to work.

What we’re doing

To foster an environment where everyone can bring their fullest selves to Wistia every day, we've put an organization-wide focus on DE&I. After bringing in external experts in 2018, we took what we learned and created our own cross-functional DE&I-focused group to push things further. By placing DE&I alongside our other company goals and objectives, we’re setting ourselves up for long-term learning and improvement.

The pillars of our plan

From our hiring processes and how we collaborate to how we build our product, we’re committed to approaching everything we do through a DE&I lens. These three pillars below outline our vision for the future.

Building the Team

Our team reflects the diversity of our community at every level, and we have fair and inclusive hiring practices. Growth opportunities are equitably distributed and recognized throughout the company and it’s clear that all perspectives are welcomed.

Working Together

We approach every task and interaction with an openness to learn and deep respect for our peers. We’ve built up strong anti-racism and anti-bias muscles and systems and we have a Code of Conduct in place to hold our team accountable.

Creating Social Impact

Our product, website, and content are inclusive and accessible. We amplify diverse voices and perspectives. We’re transparent and openly share our diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti‍-‍racism work.

Looking at the data

We’re publishing the data to hold ourselves accountable, including only the samples big enough to report on. As we work to change these numbers, this data will be updated to reflect the progress we’ve made.

Ways we support each other

To foster an inclusive environment and encourage peer support, we have seven Employee Resource Groups. These groups have Slack rooms (both public and private), a budget for group activities, and act as safe spaces for employees to be heard and supported by each other.
  • Ladybirds

Ladybirds is a group for Wistians who identify as women, as well as non-binary people, seeking spaces that center the experience of women, focused on casual conversations and building relationships, learning and development, as well as career growth.
  • Working Mums

Working Mums is a group specific to Wistians that identify as moms, mums, mamas, or mothers to share their experiences and the challenges of balancing that role with professional work.
  • Parental Advisory

We all need a little a sounding board, advice, want a space share a funny meme, or helpful article about parenting!
  • Diverstia

Our primary purpose is to encourage a culture of maximum inclusion at Wistia, so that employees and visitors to Wistia feel welcomed and valued, whoever they are and no matter their background.

Our secondary purpose is to be thought-partners and helpers to those working to increase diversity at Wistia.

  • Blistia

Blistia is a group for Black-identifying people at Wistia to share in community, personal and professional experiences, challenges, and accomplishments as Black professionals.
  • NBPOC @ Wistia

NBPOC @Wistia is a group for non-Black people of color at Wistia to build community, share resources, and lean on each other for support as we navigate our unique, diasporic experiences both in and outside of the workplace.
  • Queerstia

Queerstia is a group for folks who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community to support each other in career development, social conversations, and navigating the tech industry as a queer person.

The future

We know there’s a lot more work to be done and we’re excited to be on this journey with you.
