On Sunday, Mashable posted an interesting article about how video can help attract top talent. The article bemoans the standard recruiting process as inefficient (something I’m sure we can all agree with) and suggests online video as a better option to “shorten the hiring process and find great people.” We’re with Mashable here — we think video is the future of just about everything (duh) so naturally, we agree that it’s great for recruiting. Mashable talks about using video for the following:
- Branding your company
- Enhancing your job description
- Interviewing top talent
- Social media job listings
While we haven’t really used the second two ourselves, we are huge advocates of using video to expose our company culture. And we don’t just do it in recruiting-specific videos — our hope is that if we’re doing our job right and producing fun, authentic videos every time, then every video can be a recruiting tool.
The closest thing we have to a recruiting video is on our About page:
But we’re also hoping that the more we include everyone on camera and allow ourselves to have fun on-screen, the more people will have a sense of what it’s really like to work here. So basically, we use video as a part of a soft-recruiting strategy. I, for one, know that one of the first Wistia videos I saw was the recap video for our first movie night, and that definitely flicked a switch for me in favor of wanting to be here.
